About Me

Kim Small is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia who offers counseling services in Virginia Beach. Kim is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, an EMDR trained clinician by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider, and is a registered Supervisor with the Virginia Board of Counseling. After completing undergraduate studies from Belmont University, she earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. This program encouraged Kim in her work as a Christian counselor by providing training in bible and theology as well as sound clinical training in counseling psychology. Her treatment approaches include the interpersonal process, EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and family centered therapy.

Kim has provided clinical services since 2009 in a variety of contexts, including inpatient/residential treatment, private practice, non-profit, and school environments. Now in private practice, Kim primarily works with individuals recovering from trauma, with special focus on Survivors of sexual and spiritual abuse. She acknowledges that therapy can be an overwhelming experience, but believes the right therapeutic relationship can facilitate growth, healing, and freedom from the past. Whether in crisis or transition, hurting, wanting more fulfilling relationships, or seeking a fresh perspective and help overcoming daily challenges, stresses, and struggles, Kim seeks to provide a safe professional and clinical, yet comfortable environment for clients to examine the truth of their lives, experience growth and change, and have hope restored.

Kim is also working towards advanced training in The Enneagram, a tool for relational, personal, and spiritual growth, with the Chestnut Paes Enneagram Academy.
